I picked Black Sabbath to post today, on my 40th birthday because A) this record is from 1970, the year I was spawned, and I am so fucking on-the-nose like that and B) because I actually worked on The Osbournes and think of Ozzy as a the crazy uncle I wish I had... but I only actually ever met him once. It was at the 1st season wrap party, which I was DJing. I started off the music with "Sweet Leaf" which led to one of my favorite Hollywood moments ever... when OZZY MADE THE DEVIL SIGN TO ME. I am so awesome...

Wow, the old man's up there in his rockin' chair and he wants me off his lawn, don't he? Well, I had prepared a long, detailed, witty (dude, it was totally witty) retort, you know, something about coming to someone's site, reading 3 posts, jumping to a bunch of false assumptions and yada yada. It was quite a retort, but a bit long-winded... so I distilled it down to it's purest essence. Here is my reply to DJ Medi4...

Who he is: He's the dude from Pink Floyd.

What he sounds like: Well, if ya don't know what Pink Floyd sounds like, I would find that odd. Because they're pretty big and stuff. So anyhoo, Waters has been doing a special "Dark Side of the Moon" Tour... why he'd want to tour such an obscure album, I have no idea... :P

What I think: It'll probably be pretty damn cool, what with the special Pink Floyd-approved sound system and the super-crazy visuals and stuff. But then, the dude is 142 years old, so I'm sure all the bells and whistles are a big help. Either way, though... if I was going Sunday, you bet I'd check it out.

Since I don't consider Radiohead to be a quote-unquote "rock band" (You ever hear any stories of Thom Yorke trashing hotel rooms or banging groupies or snorting ants? Me neither! They may be geniuses, but they're pretty much a bunch of boring nerds. They have a freakin' blog for crissakes! That is SO not Rock & Roll!), I consider Led Zeppelin to hold the title of Greatest Rock Band of All Time. And really, it's not even close except for maybe the Stones... and don't even mention the word Beatles in this conversation, or I will smite you - they were the original boy-band until they did a load of drugs and got freaky. Led Zeppelin, now, they were born freaky, and that my friends, makes all the difference. You think Jimmy Page would put up with Yoko Ono's bullshit for more than like 5 seconds? Hell no! He woulda kicked her shrieky ass out the door, erected a bouncy castle in his hotel room, filled the sink with Jack Daniels and wrote a song about Gollum while getting a three blow jobs! And you know what, the Gollum blow-job song would fuckin' RAAAAAAAAAWK!!!!!!!

This song, however is all quiet and pretty, from their fifth album, Houses of the Holy, which I would say is one of their best, but they're all brilliant, so what's the point in that?

Who he is: Okay, so, heck of a story. An Austin Texas native and member of the psychedelic rock band The 13th Floor Elevators from the '60s, you know dude was rockin' major amounts of acid, weed and whatever else, so he was probably pretty weird to begin with. But then check this out, according to Wikipedia... "In 1969, Erickson was arrested for possession of one marijuana joint in Austin, Texas. Facing a ten year prison term, Erickson pled insanity, which proved to be a mistake. He was sent to the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, where he was subjected to electroconvulsive therapy and Thorazine treatments and held until 1972. When released from the state hospital, Erickson's mental outlook had changed..." How's that for an understatement... D'oh!
