Follow me, youngster

Today, the shuffle takes us on another trip in the way-back machine...

... because in terms of Electronica, this is ancient history! But good history! Yeah, you may turn up your nose at The Shamen now, but when this came out, it was hot, yo! Actually, I wonder how many of you were of music-buying age when this came out. I'm sure most of ya are not half the geezer I am. Anyhoo, this album definitely falls under the category of those that have not aged gracefully, but out of all the tunes on it, this remix by Mr. Jack Dangers aka Meat Beat Manifesto was and still is my jam...

(My sexy player site isn't working today... grrr. So you'll just have to trust me. C'mon, you know you can. Now just follow me into this here windowless shack and I'll play you a little tune. Did I mention I have candy?)

(UPDATE - 11/15/2102: Would you believe this post just got DMCA'd FOUR YEARS AFTER I POSTED IT??!?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!? What a joke...)

Head Shaman Mr. C now runs a fine House label called End Recordings along with Layo from Layo & Bushwacka, so there's something a little more up to date for ya whippersnappers...

... now get off my lawn!

The Great State of 808

Hey all. Back again after a slightly longer than expected Thanksgiving hiatus. Blame all the Rohypnol tryptophan I ate...

I guess you could count 808 State as being the act that officially introduced me to House music via their classic "Pacific"... which oddly enough was in the regular rotation at the Industrial dance night I frequented in college, played right along with the likes of Meat Beat Manifesto and MC 900 Ft. Jesus for all the kids in combat boots if you can believe it. So yes, you could definitely count that. (Instead of what's probably the real answer, Madonna's "Vogue"... but who wants to admit that, right?). One of the true great acts of the early rave scene... recognize, fools...

Just like me to talk about one song and give you another. You think I'm gonna zig, but NO! ZAGGIN' ALL THE WAY, BITCHES! "Pacific" does have an awesomely cheesy 1989 video, though...

Seriously, though... that club night would go right from that to Front 242. But it was Syracuse, New York, so you gotta give 'em points just for trying. They'd only recently discovered the phonograph machine at the time...

Old Skool... and yes, that's spelled right!

Hey, look! It's Monday again already! Ain't that grand?

This week the shuffle picked out an interesting one to start us out with. Interesting in that we don't get a whole lot of Old Skool Rave choons around here. And yeah, Old Skool Rave sounds sooooo dated any more, with some notable exceptions, of course... and here's... well, this one sounds dated, too, but not nearly as much as some. And it's from an unlikely source... Nightmares On Wax! What the fu-heck? Turns out that Ease tried his hand at some warehouse Techno before he started smoking all that weed and producing his famous blunted beats. So yeah, any kind of music can sound good when it's made by folks who are good at music... knawhutimean? So get ready for 1990, bitches! Huge bass on this one and skittering beats that would be similar to some proper 'Ardcore if they were only a bit 'arder...

Nightmares On Wax - Aftermath (ysi)

So there's a bit of an artifact of past days for ya... and you know you were in the warehouse going off to this shit some late night many years ago (well, if you're as ancient as me, you were), so don't even front...
