You'll get a rock AND LIKE IT!!!

I always say if you can't appreciate all kinds of music, then you don't really like music...

... because while I'm really not into Kiddie Rave Fidget House... too many breakdowns & buildups and making of obnoxious sounds just for the sake of sounding obnoxious... of course I can appreciate it when done well. And the NYC dude with an Italian name that goes by the handle Drop The Lime does it pretty well sometimes... like in this case...

I think it's the cowbell that brings it all together, don't you? And since it's Halloween this weekend...

Well, it's because your costume SUCKS, Charlie Brown! If you came around my house in that weak-ass shit, I'd give you a rock WITH A RAZOR BLADE IN IT! MUAHAHAHAHAEVIL!!!

I do not understand your band name.

Because if I'm only going to be able to fit in a couple of posts a week, the least I can do is keep it super-timely and hip...

Or not. At least it's proof that I really do pick the songs on here at random. So... The Wolfgang Press, eh? What exactly is that name supposed to mean? Is it a person? A thing? I don't get it. EXPLAIN YOURSELVES, SEMI-OBSCURE LATE '80S/EARLY '90S ALTERNATIVE POP ARTIST! Anyhoo, I'll bet anything I first heard of these guys on 120 Minutes. Hey, I got a joke for you...
Tone is so old...
How old is he?
Tone is so old that he can actually remember a time when watching MTV could actually expand your musical knowledge and not just give you brain herpes.

A knee-slapper, that one. But seriously, 120 Minutes and Yo! MTV Raps made me the music freak I am today... and then the rest of the day they played Winger and Color Me Badd, but still...

Stay tuned to Tonegents for the hottest tracks on wax...

Quick hitter from the shitter

See? I told you it would happen... but at least I'm making it in for a little House Music Friday this week, so I'm not a complete fackin' shite, right?

And I say "fackin' shite", because today's artist is representin' Glasgow, Mr. Milton Jackson. And... now I'm out of time, so just enjoy it, bitches...

Milton Jackson - Ghosts In My Machines (ysi)

We'll see if we can do better next week...

18 October 2010

An announcement...

I hate to say this, but the sporadic nature of posting around here is likely to continue for a while. Changes in the job situation... good ones, mind you... mean less time to fuck around making dick jokes about '60s Jazz musicians and the like. Two to three posts a week is probably what we're looking at... I'll do my best to make up for the lack of quantity with a lack of quality. Wait, I think I got that wrong. Lack of quantity, lack of quality... nope, that sounds about right...

So, this Trumystic Sound System was some sort of posse of sorts from NYC and they put together this one off compilation and I got it for 99 cents once and it was quite worth the price. It led me to buy this guy Dr. Israel's solo record which is even more highly recommended. So why didn't I post that one? ASK THE SHUFFLE!

Dr. Israel - Junglist (ysi)

They should have put out more music. Pity wasting a perfectly good name like that...

You say Knit-zer, I say Night-zer

For the second day in a row, the shuffle gives me a connection to my college years...

Yep, right about the same time I was walking around with a big black phallus in my mouth on a daily basis, I was also regularly participating in another relatively gay pursuit... strapping on my combat boots for Industrial Night at a bar called Buggsy's. At least I think that's what the place was called... it was a long time ago and my mental capacity started rapidly decreasing-- actually it started decreasing probably as soon as I entered college. Anyhoo, yeah, had a big Industrial phase, but I'm cool with it because it was, of course, my gateway drug into Electronica. But still gay. So here's Nitzer Ebb, from the record they got Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode, Recoil) to produce... which made it the least shouty, most melodic (for Nitzer Ebb) work they did. Maybe my favorite song of theirs, which I'm sure hardcore Ebbheads would consider to super duper gay...

... hmm, I probably shouldn't use "gay" like that so much. Sorry, homos!

... shit, that probably wasn't any better...

Nitzer Ebb - I Give To You (ysi)

... and I had this rather clever segue all written in my brain to go to the "Control, I'm Here" vid, but it's not on the YouTubes, so never mind...

(P.S. Tonegents Hearts Gays!)

That's a fucking harpsichord, isn't it?

Hey all, I have returned from hiatus with the freshest, most cutting edge jams in my bag...

Did I ever mention that I used to play the clarinet? Nope? Well hey, guess what? I used to play the clarinet. All the way through high school AND college. (College marching band = free football games and road trips. Don't hate.) And lemme tell you this... there is no way to look more masculine than to walk around blowing a two-foot long, black, phallus-shaped object. No way at all. But then again, Artie Shaw was a lot cooler than me so I think he made it work. Really interesting dude... he was the first white bandleader to tour the South with black musicians, for instance... but check the Wiki for the full deets for I am lazy. And, what the-- is that a fucking harpsichord????

Artie Shaw - Special Delivery Stomp (ysi)

IT WAS! That was totally a fucking harpsichord. You don't hear that every day, now do ya? Well, unless you live in the Baroque Era, that is, HEY-OOOOOOO!

Fits of FURY!

Hey there. Been on holiday for a week. Forgot to mention that. For I am a bad person. But hey, here's a little sumpin' sumpin' to tide you over until regular posting resumes (WITH A FURY!!!)...

Shlohmo is another one of those wonky L.A. guys that are so hip with the kids right now... and despite (or because of?) his young age, he is possibly the wonkiest of the bunch. To wit...

Shlohmo - Hot Boxing The Cockpit (ysi)

Also, here is a cool podcast homeboy did for XLR8R. Back with that FURY on Monday...
