Drop the zeros and get with the hero...

Just got time for another quickie today...

J-Live has been doing his thang under the radar for a long time now. And well. Stop listening to bullshit Hip-Hop and rekkanize, bee-yatch!

J-Live - Watch Sun Watch (ysi)

(Did I mention I'm also feeling a bit aggro today? I didn't? Well fuck you, then... :P )

Gobble Gobble, Bitches!

This is probably the only post of the week, so SAVOR IT!

The Mood Mosaic series from Italian label Discomagic has no less than a dozen installments of jazzy, funky '70s soundtrack & library-type grooves, but that's not why it first caught my attention. No, I was swayed by the fact that most of the installments have naked boobies on the cover. Pretty much every one but this one, of course. But Photobucket won't let you post pictures of boobies, so it's all for the best. Ernie Wilkins wasn't famous, but as an arranger and bandleader worked with some of the best... unless you don't think Count Basie, Cannonball Adderley and Buddy Rich (to name a few) are some of the best, in which case you are stupid. And "Evil Ways" is, of course, a Santana cover. Dig it...

Ernie Wilkins - Evil Ways (ysi)

Have a happy Turkey Day, folks...

When Big Beat Walked The Earth

You remember that time don't you? When Fatboy Slim was King, Moby was Queen and Barack Obama was just another student in Muslim Socialist School in Kenya...

Supercharger weren't exactly superstars of the scene, but they put out a couple of nice records and were a good time live... I saw them open for Mr. Cook one time and they dressed up in full Victorian garb with the white wigs and all and did their thing. Jolly good. Based on the costumes, I gotta imagine that they considered this to be their theme song...

Sucpercharger - Bouffant Idiots (ysi)

FYI... in the U.S they had to go by the name Supersonic because an American band was already using Supercharger. SO SUCK ON THAT, ENGLAND!

Not For Dweebs

Checking back in with the L.A. beat scene today...

I actually saw Teebs live earlier this summer... I say actually because I hardly get my geriatric ass out to shows anymore. All those noisy kids and GODDAMMIT IT'S DRAFTY IN HERE! I never get tired of that joke. You probably do, but that's neither here nor there. Anyhoo, saw Teebs at this Brainfeeder show at MacArthur Park while this crazy big Mexican soccer game was going on at the other end of the park. Also, got a fake ID which was kind of stupid since I'm 40... but hey, that's what you do there. The sound that night was actually pretty shitty but the music certainly wasn't. Dig it...

Teebs - Why Like (ysi)

It looks like Teebs does all his own art, too... dude's like talented and shit. Must be nice...

"Here giraffe, giraffe, giraffe!"

You know why India is such and up-and-coming superpower? It's because those dudes think of fucking EVERYTHING...

You ever been out trapping giraffes and say to yourself, "Man, I really wish I had the proper music for this task. I would be able to trap these giraffes SO much more efficiently!" WELL WISH NO MORE! Sapan Jagmohan got you covered, son...

Sapan Jagmohan – Giraffe Trapping Music (ysi)

I trapped like 12 giraffes while you were listening to that song... LUNCHTIME!

Boo-Boom!

I desperately want to own the truck on today's album cover...

The only two things I was able to find whilst Googling The Simeons were... jack and shit. Ha! Ok, the only two things I was able to really find out were that this is their only album and that apparently this guy was a member. Barry Boom? Nice. He should get married to Betty Boo. DOUBLE HA! Well, whatever the story, it's a nice little Dub record. Mad expensive, too. Worth it? You tell me...

The Simeons - Cool Stepping (ysi)

I would not fault you for acquiring this album through nefarious means. Barry Boom however, might stab you. YOU DON'T MESS WITH BARRY BOOM'S PAPER, SON! You have been warned...

Needless Sexual Innuendo

Hey you got time for a quickie?

Eduardo Castillo is an L.A. based producer/party-thrower and, um... that's all I know. Seems he's pretty new. But hey, he did this dope Balearic remix of Radiohead's "House Of Cards" and I like it quite a bit. Because I am a Radiohead WHORE...

Eduardo Castillo - Casaradio (ysi)

Ahhhhh... was it good for you? Because it was pretty good for me. Got a smoke?

07 November 2011

Yo, hit me up on Friendster, dude...

As I'm currently working on my first ever Hip-Hop record (you heard me), I've currently got an iPod full of nothing but the good-good in search of inspiration. Here's somewhere I've found some...

Blu & Exile are a couple of dudes who need to get their online shit together, for one. The only thing I can find for either of them are half-assed Myspace pages? FOR SHAME! Luckily they're better at music than they are at the Interwebz. Although this was a one-off project, it made several year-end "Best of..." lists in '07 and is considered bonafide new school underground classic. Check out a little bit o'why...

Blu & Exile - Simply Amazin' (ysi)

Both of these cats have since released a few projects collaborating with others. I suggest you go search 'em out...

The Genghis Khan of Funk?

You know, it's been a minute since I pimped the Tonegents Facebook page, so um... PIMP! I post a lot of groovy bonus content there and only there. So go "like" that shit up real good...

Today's jammy jam comes courtesy of Mr. Nasser Bouzida who is actually from the UK, not Cleveland as you may have guessed from the name. Ha!... Ok, actually I'm not sure if that joke makes any sense, but it kinda sounds like it does so I'm gonna leave it in. SEE HOW THE COMEDIC MIND WORKS! Anyhoo, the man with the odd moniker records under an excellent one, The Bongolian. That, my friends is solid. And so is his retro, dirty Hammond Funk. Dig it...

The Bongolian - The Fatback Showdown (ysi)

Have a great weekend, kids, and remember... you don' t have to let Herman Cain touch you there...

That's Fairly Disturbing!

So yeah, I missed posting for Halloween... I'll make up with it today with some seriously creepy shit...

That cover's a good start, eh? The dude kinda looks like Seal after a few months of heavy meth use. But that's not Manchester producer Andy Stott in the photo... Andy is a pasty white guy, of course. But homeboy has some dark, dark sounding music on this record. It's slow, sludgy techno that kinda sounds like it's been laid out on the street and torn up by one of those things they strip the top layer of asphalt off the road with when they repave it. It's music for a dancefloor that's submerged in a pool of sulphuric acid. It's... well, it's pretty fuckin' dark is what I'm tryin' ta say. Just keep in mind that this one is by far the "happiest"-sounding track on the record...

Andy Stott - Intermittent (ysi)

I think I wanna put this album on in my apartment, on repeat, at ear-splitting volume for three or four days straight and... you know... just see what happens. I let y'all know how that works out...
