The Donger Need Tunes!

Too busy trying to master the trampoline for my 2016 Olympics bid, so quickly...

DJ Cam returns to Tonegents, again, this time with his Inlove project, which appears to be him with chicks singing. Which is nice...

DJ Cam presents Inlove - Real (ysi)

I'M COMING FOR YOU, DONG DONG! AND HELL'S COMING WITH ME!

20 July 2009

Guess where this is going...

Well hello, there! Back from a vacation where it was approximately 1700 degrees outside for two straight weeks... and I have a cold... the fuck?! Anyhoo, despite some serious consideration about switching this blog to an All Pirate Metal, All The Time format, I've come to my senses and we shall continue with the usual Tonegents goodness...

... and the first bit o' goodness comes from one of our favorite French people, DJ Cam, making his third appearance on the blog, which means he just won himself a shiny new toaster. This one, a Kool & The Gang cover (you cannot go wrong) is so on-the-nose, I don't think I have to say much more...

DJ Cam - Summermadness (ysi)

By the way, the album the original version came from, Kool Jazz, is absolutely mind-blowing if you only think of Kool & The Gang as the guys who did "Celebrate"... just FYI. And you know what, I think I feel an extremely cliche theme week coming on... stay tuned...

That's Horribly Depressing!

I guess it would be pretty mean of me to post a huge downer of a song on a Monday, kinda like pouring salt into a wound... but it's not my fault! It's my iTunes on shuffle that's the asshole here, folks... I am merely the conduit.

Anyhoo, the man responsible for your emotional anguish today is French Hip-Hop producer DJ Cam, who's been around forever, remixed by Co-Frenchy Kid Loco who recently returned with a new record after a seemingly lengthy hiatus. Why they decided to go all Morrisey on your ass, I don't know, but this is actually a pretty song if you can stop sobbing long enough to, um... enjoy it, I guess?

Okay, I've pulled myself back from the ledge. Now I'll try to help you curb the urge to slit your wrists with some funny comedy... my latest appearance on Chelsea Lately, in which you see Tone in a way you have never seen him before... and most likely never wanted to...

Now I feel like I need to apologize again... good times around here today, eh? :P

The Sensory Wave, Manifested In The Hips... Huh?

Funky and Friday... they go together like bacon and eggs, Laverne and Shirley, stalkers and restraining orders...

Another old one here... The Mighty Bop's "La Vague Sensorielle" was one of the very first releases on Bruno Guez's Quango label, from 1995. The Mighty Bop is actually one of the many pseudonyms of that Frenchy pretty boy Bob Sinclar, which is actually a pseudonym, too. (Dude's real name is Christophe Le Friant, if you care... but how weird is that, having a pseudonym that is in itself a normal name? Like if I decided to put out something under the name, I dunno, Greg Johnson or something? WTF?). Anyhoo, this album found Bobby, as his friends call him, collaborating with DJ Cam and Le Funk Mob, so it was kind of a French hip-hop supagroop! Sample-heavy stuff, as the downtempo of the day tended to be...

The Mighty Bop - Le Voyage

Buy It!

Is it just me, or is that sampled guitar line the same one Gang Starr used in "Manifest", just pitched differently? You tell me...

Gang Starr - Manifest
Gang Starr - Mass Appeal: The Best of Gang Starr

Might very well be... but I know what you're saying. You're saying, "Tone, if you were really as cool as you think you are, you'd have that sample source right there on your little hard drive, too." Well, I just so happen to, cuz I is exactly cool as what I done thunk I is :P

James Brown - Bring It Up (Hipster's Avenue)
James Brown - Star Time

Okay, not exactly obscure. I'm still kinda cool... sorta...
