Probably have. I'm a bit of a hack. Anyhoo, this probably isn't changing lives, but it is moving butts. And sometimes that's enough...

Just picked up this amazing compilation, the complete title of which is Brand New Wayo: Funk, Fast Times and Nigerian Boogie Badness 1979-1983, and this shit is off the hook. That title describes it better than I could, but I'll just add that this stuff is supremely funky and catchy... I woulda liked to go to the parties where this was playing. Maybe. I mean, I have no idea how killed I'd get in Nigeria in 1970... but if the answer to that is "not very" then I stand by my statement. This is also one of the most nicely remastered African comps I've heard in a while. I'll be playing this out at my imaginary DJ gigs fo sho...

Handsome Boy Modeling School was a two-album team up between international men of mystery Nathaniel Merriweather and Chest Rockwell, who also went by the names Dan The Automator and Prince Paul. So yeah, two of the best Hip-Hop producers, oh... ever. And if you disagree with that, I will fight you. Plus you have to love any act that gets it's name from a Chris Elliot bit. YOU HAVE TO! The project, like so many, came to an end because of bitching over money, but they left us some great tunes. Here's one now...

What he sounds like: He's another one of the guys on the jazzier end of the Brainfeeder crew... much like Austin Peralta, who I saw live this summer in one of those odd occurences in which I actually go out in public. OLD. I'm just, like, really busy, man... anyhoo, I'm also not sure this is the best song on his debut album, but I gotta love the baseball card reference...

Wow. Hard to get motivated to blog when you're on vacation. Had this whole lovely, profanity-laced rant about the whole Madonna/Deadmau5 thing mostly written (short version: Deadmau5 is a douche. Shocker.) but that shit's old news now. Oh well... back to the Coachella...

I was going to skip Wild Beasts and I'm sure I was right about that, but it's been so long since I started this post that I can't even remember why. HA!
