T1K

Well check me out. This here post marks 1000 here at the Tonegents Webtube MP3-tery and Interstate Planking Federation. That's 10 to da muthafuckin' thizzird, yo! I'm quite shocked that my lazy ass has managed to be this productive over the last 4 years or so... and it's no fun if you don't think anyone gives a rat's ass. But 155,000 visits, 215,000 page views from 123,000 visitors in 166 countries? Holy shit, right?!?! I owe you all a big fat thank you (w/ optional reach-around). And what better way to do that than with a dirty, nasty, funky 70+ minutes of boompty-boomp badassery? NONE WAY NONE BETTER! This here is guaranteed make your butt move, your nipples hard and your teeth whiter. Get up with the get down...

Dowload this puppy in it's full 320kps glory here. Oh, and go to the Facebook page, help yourself to some steaming hot bonus content and "like" that shit up. Then let's see if we can make it to 2000. At the pace I've been going lately, that should happen, oh... somewhere in 2037. Off to an undisclosed location for the July 4th weekend. See you next week sometime. Toodles...

Hey, at least I picked a good song...

Sometimes you just don't feel like putting that much effort into it...

Interestingly enough, when doing my "research" on Hip-Hop group LA Symphony, I learned two interesting things... 1) They are from, surprisingly, Los Angeles and 2) A dude I used to work with was apparently in the group, but not during when I worked with him. Riveting, stuff, eh?

LA Symphony - Put Up Or Shut Up (ysi)

Yeah, so not the greatest post I've ever written, but the next post will be a milestone achievement, just you wait and see...

And now, a scene from "High Fidelity"...

INT. CHAMPIONSHIP VINYL - DAY

Customer: Who is this?

Rob Gordon: The Beta Band.

Customer: It's good.

Rob Gordon: I know.

P & B Jam

Today I got some newness for ya from a couple of guys who are musical Old Faithfuls...

Christian Prommer is part of Truby Trio, Fauna Flash & Voom:Voom and Alex Barck is part of Jazzanova... between the two of these dudes, you're talking about hands on most of the Compost Records family of fine musical products. So when they form together under the cryptic-yet-clever moniker Prommer & Barck, one is right to expect quality. The record's a little more House-oriented than I would have expected, which is a pleasant surprise... obviously it's not peak-hour jackin' House, but the 4/4 is there on most songs. It's the kind of House you'd expect a dude from Jazzanova & a dude from Truby Trio to make. My only qualm... apparently Mr. Barck is one of those dudes who thinks he can sing... and he's, well, he's almost right. Thankfully the vocals are more of the float in/float out variety and so they're not a dealbreaker. A bit dodgy? Sometimes. But no dealbreaker. To wit...

Prommer & Barck - Submarine Bells (ysi)

I think this record is probably gonna end up being a growing on me. It's not something you can take completely in in one listen, for sure. Lotsa little surprises and change-ups in there. Again, these two guys aren't making DJ tools here. Get on it...

Word to the Nerd

Today's question... phony rappers or funny rappers?

Like most 40-year-old men, I've been a fan of MC Chris since his fierce, heartfelt portrayal of MC Pee Pants in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force cartoons (talk about Emmy snubs!), but that probably goes without saying. But with an artist like this, the question is... is this dude a joke or just a dude with jokes? I vote the latter. Much like I've noticed recently with Das Racist, sure it's all silly on the surface but there are some damn clever rhymes in there and fearlessly interesting production to boot. That's why you get a song about working at Arby's that's more interesting and lyrically deep than anything I've heard from someone like Jay-Z, since I dunno... ever?

MC Chris - Potato Cakes (ysi)

Now, being as nerdy as he is (after all, there are those that call this kind of rap Nerdcore), there are all sorts of fan-made videos and whatnot for MC Chris jawns, probably the most popular of which follows...

Yup, that's pretty damn nerdy. Kinda love it...

Band Geeks for Beat Freaks

And now, the funkiest group of high school band geeks in history...

I was in the Stage Band when I was in high school. Played bass clarinet. Yep. Sexay. It's been so long that I have trouble remembering any of the tunes we played. A Barry Manilow medley comes to mind. "Copacabana" was the big finish, I think... anyhoo, the band at good ol' Heuvelton Central School had nothing on the Kashmere Stage Band, mostly due to the fact that we were approximately 150% white... why the fuck you think we were rocking Barry Manilow medleys?

Kashmere Stage Band - Zero Point (Pts. 1 & 2) (ysi)

So it turned out to be pretty fitting that this popped up in the shuffle today, as it turns out that very, very soon a documetary about these guys called Thunder Soul is about to be released, thanks to none other than Jamie Foxx. Nice work, dude. I might even forgive you for your own stupid music for this one...

Know that I will be seeing the SHIT outta that one and you should, too. Take it sleazy...

You have (1) attachment!

Sorry the posting's been light around here... I've been rather busy this past week trying to destroy all of cock shots Anthony Weiner has sent me on Facebook. Dude is incorrigible. Honestly, I think he could have avoided this whole kerfuffle if he'd just done his homework... everyone knows the best place to post your cock shots is on LinkedIn...

I'm not sure whether to introduce Prince Fatty as a dude or a band, because seemingly it's both. But he's not the one singing. He's sort of a mastermind of sorts. And if we're being honest, I can't tell you if this album as a whole is good or awful. Haven't listened to it yet (although a quick check of the personnel would hint that it is very, very good)... but it doesn't really matter because this Cypress Hill cover is genius enough to make it worth it your while regardless...

Prince Fatty - Insane In The Brain (ysi)

Okay, so now I have equalled last week's post total. Huzzah! Tea and decorative cakes for everyone!

What, was Kal Vilmer taken?

Me and Ms. Tonegent spent quite a bit of time this weekend listening to the simulcast of the Movement Festival (or as the old folks call it, DEMF) live from Detroit on Resident Advisor which is probably the most awesome Electronic music website on the Internet tubes. The great thing about this was that, unlike the Coachella cast, they actually broadcast almost every single artist on each of the five stages LIVE. The way it should be done. Learn something, Coachella. Or just do weird shit like this. All I can say is... interesting choice. But I'm pretty sure I'm gonna skip that and go to Detroit next year, because the whole thing was pretty awesome, and Animal Collective was NOWHERE to be found. That is proper concert programming for people that actually like good music. Kudos to you, Paxahau. Anyhoo...

... the one act that I didn't know of that got my rocks off over the weekend more than any other was the horribly-named Com Truise. Really, dude? Com Truise? That's what you're going with? Really?

...

...

Okay, well it's your prerogative... you can do what you wanna do. Fortunately, unlike the name, the music is fantastic. I would call it slo-mo House but a lot of people are saying how '80s it is, which I sorta get... but the '80s reference is more for his sounds than his sound, if you know what I mean...

Com Truise - Iwywaw (ysi)

See what I'm sayin'? No? Eh, whatevs. Be on the lookout for the full-length coming soon on Ghostly. Kisses...
