Blog-achella '07 - Digitalism (Fri.) / DJ Heather (Sat.)

Now, I know that the Grammys are a meaningless joke not even worth getting irritated over, but seriously...

Carrie Underwood for Best New Artist over Imogen Heap? Fuck right off. And I know, I know... Milli Vanilli once won this award, so why bother even mentioning it? But I had to... Imogen deserves some recognition! Maybe if she got it, she could sell a bunch more albums and buy some normal clothes! Because, um, you're genius at music and all, but... damn, girl... you're giving Bjork a run for her money...

Also, I gotta say that despite the fact that I agree with the Dixie Chicks politics (democrat) and know that they really got fucked over by their conservative fans and record company and radio, they were still juuuuuuuuust a little too smug and self satisfied with their "ha-ha, we won" act last night. Or was it just me. Half the problem with liberals is how they can sometimes come off as thinking that they are so much smarter than everyone else, and this is off-putting to the general voters (who they are, in fact, smarter than, but that's neither here nor there) and well, um... what was my point? Oh yeah... the Dixies Chicks make crap music.

Also, I loved how sting busted out the haircut from Dune and the sleeveless shirt for the big Police reunion. It's like 15 of his last twenty years of being a pussy just disappeared instantly :P

Digitalism

Who they are: A couple of zee Germanz wiz zee loud sythesizer macheenz

What they sound like: The first of a few acts we will encounter on this trip that are part of the current Euro-trend of house music with really buzzy, grindy, lo-fi analog synth work. Lots of "RAARAR, WEEOOWEEOO, FAZAZAZAZA" etc. Some of it is quite good, with some really excellent production trickery and makes you wanna dance... and some of it just makes your ears hurt and feel like they're going to bleed. These cats, luckily, are on the better end of the spectrum, with this track being much mellower than some stuff you'll hear a few blogs down the line.

What I think: This is what the kids are all kooky for these days and for the most part it works for me... although sometimes I wonder, "whatever happened to some just plain ol' house music"?...

... and segue thusly.

DJ Heather

Who she is: She is a DJ... named Heather... duh. From Chicago

What she sounds like: Jus' some plain old house music. Doesn't seem to do much if any production, though, apart from (looks like) some vocals on other people's trax. So I scoured the web, found a fuckin' rad website called Samurai.fm (which you need to bookmark immediately) and the page below contains a couple of mixes to stream. Just look through the list... you'll find 'em.

What I think: Yes, please!

One last note... through your lack of participation, I shall assume that the poll idea was GHEY, and we shall never speak of it again.

Also in breaking news... Anna Nicole = still dead.
