Blog-achella '07 - Explosions In The Sky (Sun.) / Fair To Midland (Sun.)

Today, as it so happens, we get two indie rock bands from Texas --

"Holy dog shit. Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Blog-boy! And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down!"

Umm... ooookay. Anyhoo...

Explosions In The Sky

Who they are: These ones are from Austin

What they sound like: Like a slightly less interesting version of Mogwai

Explosions In The Sky - Welcome, Ghosts

What I think: I can sorta get into this. A bit shoegazy for me, but if you put these guys on at sunset you might be onto something, no? But then again, they're playing the same night as Air so NO DEAL!!! :P

"What is your major malfunction, numbnuts? Didn't Mommy and Daddy show you enough attention when you were a child?"

Who let that guy in here?

Fair To Midland

Who they are: These ones are from Dallas

What they sound like: I gotta go to the bio on this one... "Depending on who's counting, there are anywhere from 100 to n-frigging-thousand subgenres of rock music a band can slide into for easy categorization. And depending on where you drop the laser on Fair to Midland's Serjical Strike debut, The Drawn and Quartered E.P., at least half of those subgenres are being reinvented at once."... so, in other words... it's just kinda all over the place, no? Wankers.

Fair To Midland - Orphan Anthem

What I think: I think they are re-defining half of the known subgenres of "meh". What do you think of that, R. Lee Ermey?

"I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!"

Yikes!

(Aaaaaaaaand scene.)

Also, very quickly, went to Catalina Bar & Grill last night for V-Day with the little lady, and we caught one Christian Scott and his combo playing some live jazz. Dude is very, very good. Give him a click.
